The Directors have involved in the development a viable alternative to the chemical fertiliser currently consumed. A new product has been developed, well tested and are ready to go for commercial production- BOM, a microbial fertiliser.



BOM has the following benefits over chemical fertilisers: -

Revitalising over-fertilised soil, breaking down embedded chemical residues of the soil and solving the environmental problems.

Making use of bacteria in organic substance medium, BOM, when applied in soil, can provide essential NPK nutrients in absorbable form to crops and plants through nitrogen fixation, phosphorus and potassium decomposition, without causing harm to the environment.

Improving agricultural crop quality. Various field studies have indicated that the use of BOM can improve the nutritive value and quality of crops and fruits.

Effective and efficient fertiliser. The microbial fertiliser is active in soil up to 150 days. Hence, less fertiliser is required, leading to a saving in both materials and labour.

Competitive pricing, BOM is priced at Rmb 1,800/MT (US$217) compares to Rmb 2,800/MT ¡VRmb3,400/MT(US$337-410/MT) for imported compound fertiliser.

Wide application, BOM has proved to be very successful in high value-added fresh agricultural produce and grass fileds such as :-

Technology and History of Development

The microbial fertliser BOM is the result of over 20 years of research in biotechnology- a proprietary technology using electro-magnetic field bacteria culture for the selection and culturing of 3 different strains of bacteria, (a common soil bacteria) and yeast strains. Using coal waste as a carbon source and together with the 3 strains and strains of yeast, these form a symbiotic association which will serve as a biological production house of the essential nutrients necessary for the growth of plants. The Azotobacter chroococcum strains have nitrogen fixing property as well as the ability of Bacillus megaterium and Bacillus mucilaginosus to organify phosphate and potassium, and to decompose carbon waste while the yeast strains provide all the essential factors and nutrients for the growth of the said 3 strains of bacteria. The technology, methods and production process were engineered in China , developed over the 1980¡¦s and 1990¡¦s and later finalized under Hong Kong government CRC project 1999.-



Composition of BOM

BOM comprises a symbiotic association of several microbial species. Specifically, the fertiliser contains 3 strains and yeast strains of bacteria.

Strains include: -

Azotobacter chroococcum - nitrogen fixing bacterium

Bacillus megaterium - phosphate rock decomposing bacterium ;and

Bacillus mucilaginosus - rock potassium decomposing bacterium

YEAST strains produce :-

growth factors; and

energy.

Manufacturing of BOM

The manufacturing of BOM can be summarised as follows: -

Preparation of the central rock phosphate core

Grinding rock phosphate to about 200 mesh;

Combining the ground rock phosphate with wheat bran fermented by the growth factor producing yeast and with the rock phosphate decomposing bacterium to form a mixture of ground rock phosphate, the fermented bran, the growth factor producing yeast and the rock decomposing bacterium;

Drying the mixture of (ii) and forming the dried mixture into granules;

Preparation of the intermediate layer

Grinding weathered coal or coal-mine waste to about 200 mesh;

Combining the ground weathered coal or coal-waste with wheat bran fermented by the energy producing yeast, and with the nitrogen fixing bacterium, the phosphate rock decomposing bacterium, and the potassium rock decomposing bacterium to form a mixture of ground rock phosphate, fermented bran, the energy producing yeast, the nitrogen fixing bacterium, the phosphate rock decomposing bacterium, and the potassium rock decomposing bacterium;

Drying the mixture of (b)(ii) and forming the dried mixture into a layer around the granules of (a)(iii); and wherein the outer film is manufactured by spraying an aqueous solution of bone glue and powdered talc onto the surface of the intermediate layer formed in the process.
